Marian Francis Ottens (1938 – 2021)

marian ottensMarian Francis Ottens, 82, of Morristown, TN, passed away on Sunday, June 6, 2021, at the home of her son in Morristown.

Marian was born September 17, 1938, in Denver, IA, to John William and Rose Anna (Oberheu) DeVries.  Marian was educated in the Denver grade schools and was a graduate of Denver High School.  She then graduated with a Nursing degree from Allen College in Waterloo, IA.  She married LaVerne Ottens on November 10, 1962.  He died in March of 1983.  Marian later married Peder Finnberg, and he died in June of 2018.  She was a retired Registered Nurse from Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, IL.  Marian was a former member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Hoffman Estates, IL, and Bethany Lutheran Church in Crystal Lake, IL.  She was an avid Bridge player.

Survivors include sons, Bradford (Olga Lebedynska) Ottens of Morristown, TN, and Jeffrey (Wendy) Ottens of Huntley, IL; four grandchildren, Jeremy Ottens, Crystal Sadjak, Alexandria (Matt) Dornauer, and Kristina Ottens; one great-granddaughter, Madeline Dornauer; six sisters, Jerry (Keith) Schroeder of Waverly, IA, Betty Opelt of Ridgedale, MO, Jane (Steve) Novick of Cedar Falls, IA, Barbara (Wayne) Lageschulte of Waverly, IA, Norma DeVries of Cedar Falls, IA, and JoAnn DeVries of Denver, CO; sisters-in-law, Luella Buis of Morrison, IL, and Betty Matthews of Indio, CA; brother-in-law, Harvey Ottens of Morrison; many nieces and nephews.

Marian was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands, LaVerne Ottens and Peder Finnberg; daughter, Stephanie R. Ottens; brother, John DeVries; five sisters-in-law, Pauline Ottens, Katherine Bielema, Johanna Vegter, Jessie Dykema, and Della Mae Deelsnyder; brothers-in-law, David and Gerald Ottens.

The Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 11, 2021, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Denver, IA, with Visitation from noon until the time of the service at the church.  Rev. Dennis Hanson, Pastor of Nazareth Lutheran Church of Cedar Falls, IA, will be officiating.

There will be a Graveside service held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 12, 2021, at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison, IL.

The Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
