March 6 Comfort Zone Family Grief Camp

Posted by

GriefCampComfort Zone Family Grief Camp is a unique and innovative session, designed specifically for parents and children who have suffered the loss of a loved one.  The mission of camp is to provide children with the resources to help them cope with their grief and to allow them to spend time with other children who are experiencing a similar situation.

Comfort Zone Family Grief Camp will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., on Friday, March 6, 2020, at Blueberrity, 1900 W. LeFevre Road, Suite C, Sterling, IL.  It is hosted by Rock River Hospice & Home (RRHH.)  A light meal will be provided.  Because loss knows no bounds, our camp is provided free of charge to all.  The event is sponsored and facilitated by Rock River Hospice & Home, an agency of United Way of Whiteside and Lee Counties.

More details and registration can be made by calling Cynthia at 815-625-3858.

Our service is available to all children between six and 13 years of age who have experienced a loss and need support.  A mixture of fun activities allows children to express feelings and concerns, identify supportive people, and find appropriate ways to use memories for healing and growth, with the theme of offering true hope for their future.

Children grieve differently from adults, and that grieving has no set time frame.  A common misconception is that bereavement camps are full of tears and sadness.  Not true!  Camp is full of fun, good times, and friendship.  Most kids don’t know they are not alone in their loss, until they come to camp.

“We want each child who attends our camp to leave with a sense of hope, that they are not alone in their grief, and hope that they will continue to seek help in their journey towards healing,” said Cynthia Stringer, Rock River Hospice & Home Grief Counselor and Camp Coordinator.  “This year we have modified the camp experience, to make it more of a family event, by including parents.  Adults will have a separate break-out session, which will offer them…ideas to help their children through the grieving process,” Stringer said.
