Saturday, March 29, 2025, was a fine afternoon for fishing in Morrison-Rockwood State Park’s Lake Carlton. The Editor spoke to two families. Dynamic gray clouds filled the sky with menacing swirls.
Samantha West and Chris Browne live in Sterling, IL, with West’s three daughters. They are experienced fishers. “A couple days ago [they had] fished in Rock River,” said West. “Last year we [often] had success at this dock.” They enjoyed the hilltop “playground and had rainy hikes.” West and Browne are veterans and have a National Parks Pass. Their lucky dock is on the south side of the lake, at the burmed hill and a small parking lot. Left-to-right are Layla 9, Samantha, Rally 12, and Lilly 6.
There was a slow-gliding boat behind the family. A pair of men stood and cast their lines. Another man did the same, while hugging the shore In the distance.
To the left of the Marina Restaurant, the Editor spotted Rogelio Flores, Sr. and five of his Sterling, IL, grandkids. He had neatly spaced them along the shore, with fishing lines in the water. He explained to the Editor that there was a family activity coming up later that day. Flores and his lady, Gabrielle Koenig, took the opportunity to get the youths out from underfoot. The couple live in Dixon, SD. They drove to Sterling to visit Rogelio’s daughter. Left-to-right are Mazias Castanon 7; Lenny Flores, 4; Ayzeana Castanon 6; Lucy Flores 5; Aidryan Perales 14.
This comfortable bench overlooked fishing activities and large cloud masses.
