03-26-15 at 8:06 a.m. The Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of the Erie, IL, Police and Fire Departments, responded to a fatal motor vehicle accident on Moline Road, near Sand Road in rural Erie. The accident occurred when an eastbound Saturn sedan with a male driver exited the roadway to the south, striking a street sign, fencing, and finally a tree. The driver was taken to Illini Hospital via helicopter, where he was pronounced dead. There were no other passengers in the vehicle.
The driver’s name is being withheld pending notification of family.
