03-23-15 at 6:36 a.m. Whiteside Counties responded to a single-vehicle traffic crash on U. S. Route 30, just east of Galt Road, involving a school bus. During the investigation of the crash, the driver of the bus, Tina M. Ortiz, age 47 of Sterling, IL, was issued a citation for Driving Too Fast for Conditions. There were no injuries to Ortiz or her five-year-old passenger during the crash. Ortiz was traveling westbound on U. S. Route 30 when she lost control of the bus, slid across the eastbound lane, and [went] into the south ditch. Once in the ditch, the bus rolled onto the passenger side and stopped. It was also determined during the investigation of the crash that the weather and driving too fast for the snow-covered roadway were contributing factors. Ortiz was released from the scene on a Notice to Appear. The bus was removed from the ditch by Ince’s Towing.
