The Morrison Community Unit School District #6 Board of Education met Monday, March 21, 2022, without Board members Brian Witt and Dustin Damhoff.
Approval of the Consent Agenda opened the session. Included were approval of monthly invoices submitted and presentations of Activity reports for the respective school locations. The Board approved hirings: a) Ryan Decker (volunteer Baseball coach); b) Marcus Rumfelt (volunteer Baseball coach); c) Bob Stone (volunteer Baseball coach); d) Jon Paul (volunteer Softball coach); e) Ceara Stanton (volunteer Softball coach); f) Genna Stage (1-on-1 Aide at Northside School); g) Mark Ernst (MJHS Track coach); h) Christine Houzenga (1-on-1 Aide at Northside School); i) Kelly Holland (MJHS Track coach); j) Angela Meier (MJHS paraprofessional.) In other reports, Superintendent Scott Vance noted that enrollment for the month recorded a reduction of seven students, but the number compared to one year ago recorded an increase of nine students.
Action taken under Old Business items included: a) the renewal of the Letter of Understanding between Morrison Community Unit School District #6 and Sauk Valley Community College, continuing the dual credit partnership; b) approval of the action to amend the Return to Learn Plan; c) acceptance of the proposed 2022-2023 MCUSD #6 District calendar, beginning Wednesday, August 17, and ending Wednesday, May 24, 2023; d) approval of a Youth Suicide Prevention Policy; e) renewal of the working agreement with IHSA; f) an agreement to renew a phone service contract with Frontier.
One of the New Business items approved rewording procedures for Board members, to submit, add, and/or change items to be included on the Board Agenda. Such details become critical, due to the requirement that Board agendas must be published at least 48 hours prior to the meeting. Approval was extended to Mike Krueger to serve as Tennis coach for his son, Mark Cyphers. This will allow Mark to participate in IHSA Tennis competition representing Morrison High School. Technical Director Duane Schaffer was authorized to purchase 500 new Chromebooks at a cost of $50,250.
In closing, the Board authorized Superintendent Vance to enter into discussion with the City of Morrison, regarding the possibility to sign a long-term lease, for use of the Baseball diamond at the Morrison Sports Complex.
