03-14-15 at 10:10 p.m. Whiteside County Deputies responded to a single-vehicle fatality crash at the intersection of Hahnaman Road and Yorktown Road, rural Prophetstown, IL. A vehicle was traveling westbound on Hahnaman Road when the driver failed to stop for the T-Intersection and impacted the guardrail. After impact with the guardrail, the vehicle became airborne and then slammed into the residence located at that intersection. The vehicle came to rest inside the residence and then erupted in flames. Fortunately, nobody inside the residence was injured, and they were able to safely evacuate the residence. Unfortunately, the driver was trapped inside the vehicle and succumbed to the fire. The crash remains under investigation.
Deputies were assisted by Prophetstown Fire Protection District, Tampico Fire Department, Yorktown Fire Department, Manlius Fire Department, Walnut Fire Department, and Sterling/Rock Falls Fire Departments, Illinois State Police Crime Scene, Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office, Prophetstown Police, Tampico Police, and Ince’s Towing.
