Clever committee members Sandy Grau, Laini Houzenga, Katie Jakubs, Maggie Jones, and Julie Nicklaus have devised a unique way to raise funds for the 8th Annual Make Teal Real Ovarian Cancer Awareness golf outing on Saturday, June 28, 2014. Children and adults of any age and non-golfers will have fun at “The Chopper Dropper” event, prior to tee time at Cross Creek Golf Course, 15523 Henry Road, Morrison, IL.
Beginning now and before 10:00 a.m. on June 28, purchase a numbered ticket for $5 that matches a numbered golf ball–or buy five numbered balls for $20. Sounds like an ordinary drawing or raffle, right? Here comes the fun part. All the numbered golf balls will be put into a helicoptor and flown over one of the greens, before they are dropped like hail. The ball which lands in the hole or closest to the pin earns its owner $600! The second-closest ball earns a prize of $300. That is golf everyone can enjoy, and any one might be a big winner.
Buy Chopper Dropper tickets from Morrison Community Hospital, 303 N. Jackson Street (815-772-4003); Committee member Maggie Jones (815-590-4310); Cross Creek Golf Course owner Dixie Vegter (815-772-7966.)
For the Real Teal golfers, there is a four-person, best-ball event after the drop. Registration begins at 9:30, with a shotgun start at 11:00 a.m. The fee is $60 per golfer and includes lunch. Prizes will be awarded.
The uses of money raised are comprehensive. It will fund two $1000 Morrison High School scholarships for graduating students who will pursue a medical career. It will aid families battling cancer with medical expenses and fund women’s education to detect and fight cancer. It will be donated to the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation.
