Editor’s note: Last August, business owner Joy Tegeler pondered how to access her office on the north side of W. Main Street. There were lots of challenges to Main Street businesses and citizens during demolition and construction. The completed renovation is an outstanding example of skillful scheduling, collaboration, creativity, and patience.
In August 2021, Morrison, IL, City Administrator Barry Dykhuizen submitted this report of Main Street Redevelopment Project.
Work completed: August 2 to August 6
• The pavement, curb and gutter, and sidewalk was removed on Main Street from Genesee Street to Cherry Street.
• Installed aggregate base course on Genesee Street and on Main Street from Genesee Street to Cherry Street.
• Installing iFiber duct, electrical, and technology conduits and concrete bases for the street lights on Genesee Street and on Main Street from Genesee Street to Cherry Street.
• Poured sidewalk on the east side of Base Street south of Main Street.
• Poured sidewalk on Main Street from Base Street to Genesee Street.
Construction Activity: August 9 to August 13
• Complete the installation of the iFiber duct, electrical, and technology conduits and concrete bases, for the street lights on Genesee Street and Main Street from Genesee Street to Cherry Street.
• Pour curb and gutter on Genesee Street.
• Pour curb and gutter on Main Street from Genesee Street to Cherry Street.
• Seed and install erosion blanket on landscape areas along Orange Street.
Street Closures
• Orange Street is open to traffic.
• Main Street from Orange Street to Base Street is open to traffic.
• Base Street is open to traffic.
• Main Street from Base Street to Cherry Street will be closed.
• Genesee Street from U. S. Route 30 to Market Street will be closed.
