In early Fall 2020, a grant of $854 was distributed to Odell Public Library, 307 S. Madison Street, Morrison, to support portable curriculum packs for preschoolers. Selecting the rich variety of topics and materials “was a labor of love,” stated Children’s Librarian Katie Rider. “Six-or-seven books and a manipulative (nonelectronic) are included per pack.”
With this MACF grant, the Odell Public Library made available Discovery Book Packs. These are themed book bundles, which include manipulatives, a non-electronic toy, and early literacy tips and activities.
Odell currently offers Discovery Book Packs on seven topics: ABCs, Colors, Construction, Cats, Dogs, Things That Go, and Bedtime. Rider noted, “plans are to add 21 additional topics throughout the year, such as Trains, Laugh Out Loud, and Caterpiller and Butterfly.”
