The Savanna Historical Society will host an informational program on Lyme disease on Saturday, April 8, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. Mary Deja, Park Ranger for the McHenry County Conservation District, was diagnosed with Lyme Disease in March 2016.
She will share her experience with this disease, her treatment, and prevention tips. This is so others do not suffer the effects of Lyme disease and financial strain caused by the later stages of the disease.
Lyme disease is the most common disease spread by ticks in the Northern Hemisphere. It is estimated to affect 300,000 people a year in the United States and 65,000 people a year in Europe. Infections are most common in the spring and summer.
It is estimated that over 18,000 cases have been detected in Illinois.
The program is presented as a public service at the Savanna Museum and Cultural Center, 406 Main Street, Savanna IL. It is open to all with no admission.
