Lyle E. McDonald, 89, of Resthave Home in Morrison, IL, died Thursday, August 9, 2018, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling, IL.
Lyle was born April 30, 1929, in Tampico, IL, to Alvin M. and Grace M. (Pelton) McDonald. He was educated in the Bureau County grade schools and was a graduate of Morrison High School. On September 23, 1949, he married Marjorie J. Kuehl in Morrison. She died April 14, 2012. Early in his career Lyle was employed by Huffman Auto Parts (HAPCO) in Sterling as a machinist. Later he worked in the parts department for McEleney Motors in Clinton, IA. He was a member of Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison. With the help of his wife, brothers-in-law, and other family and friends, Lyle built his home in Morrison. He raised his family there, living in the house from 1956 until 2017. Lyle loved boating, antiquing, and tinkering on projects in his workshop.
Survivors include two sons, Michael (Cornelia) McDonald of Columbus, OH, and Barry McDonald of Phoenix, AZ; two grandchildren, Benjamin (Allison) McDonald and Colin McDonald; two great-grandchildren, Cornelia and Fletcher McDonald.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marjorie; three sisters, Gladys Glassburn, Verda Sweet, and Dorothy Wirth; three brothers, Merle, Carrol, and Burnell McDonald.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Sunday, August 12, 2018, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, preceded by a visitation at 12:30 until the time of the service. Officiating the service is Rev. Gerald Norman, Pastor of Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison, IL.
Interment will be at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison, IL.
