Lorraine N. Dykema (1925 – 2015)

lorraine dykemaLorraine N. Dykema, 89, of Resthave Nursing Home, Morrison, IL, died Monday, April 13, 2015, at the nursing home.

Lorraine was born July 25, 1925, in Morrison, to Peter and Dora (Dykstra) Vos. She was educated in the Morrison grade schools and was a graduate of Morrison High School. She later earned her Licensed Practical Nursing degree. On January 30, 1948, she married Irvin Dykema in Morrison. He died November 23, 1991. Lorraine farmed along with her husband on a farm they purchased together east of Morrison. In 1967 she earned her LPN degree and worked at the former Whiteside County Home. In 1969 she began working at Resthave Nursing Home when they opened the nursing wing. She worked there for more than 20 years. Lorraine was a member of Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison and was involved in the church’s Philathea Society and choir. She also served as a Catechism, Sunday school, and Bible school teacher and was a Christian Endeavor leader. Lorraine enjoyed camping in their trailer around the United States and spending winters at their home in Ft. Myers, FL. She also enjoyed reading, studying the Bible, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include one daughter, Gayle (David) Swigart of Petersburg, IL; two sons, Greg (Connie) Dykema of Geneseo, IL, and Mark (LaVonne) Dykema of Morrison; nine grandchildren, Justin Brown, Emily (Parker) Robison, Austin Swigart, Tomya Dykema and fiancé Marcus Greenwood, Alyxandra Dykema, Sydney Dykema, Christopher (Melissa Bremer) Dykema, Aaron (Agnieszka Watson) Dykema, Andrew Dykema; five great-grandchildren, Kinyana Pennewell and Korday Dykema, Jakob and Jenna Dykema, Brennan Dykema; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Charlie Bremer and Sylvia Watson; one sister, Evelyn Griffith of Monroe, WI.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Irivn; one sister, Pauline Wilkens; one half-sister, Faye Vandermyde; one half-brother, DuWayne Vos.

FUNERAL SERVICE:  11:00a.m., Monday, April 20, 2015, at Ebenezer Reformed Church, Morrison, IL

OFFICIATING:  Mr. Ken Renkes, Director of Congregational Care

VISITATION:  9:30 a.m., until time of service Monday, April 20, 2015, at Ebenezer Reformed Church, Morrison, IL

The Morrison Chapel of Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

INTERMENT:  Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison, IL
