Lorna B. Peterson, 93, of Scottsdale, AZ, went to be with The Lord on Friday, April 4, 2014.
Lorna was born June 14, 1920, in Morrison, IL, to Benjamin and Elizabeth (Beswick) Hammer. She was educated in the Delhi Grade School of rural Whiteside County, IL, and was a graduate of Morrison High School. She also graduated from beauty school. On August 26, 1945, Lorna married Willis W. Peterson in Morrison. He died December 18, 1991. Lorna worked at the Tresa Lee Beauty Salon and the Scottsdale House Beauty Salon, both in Scottsdale, AZ. She was a former member of Morrison United Methodist Church and a member of the North Phoenix Baptist Church. Her mission in life was to serve her Heavenly Father, and she accomplished this throughout her life. She loved her Bible Study Group and loved attending church. She was blessed to travel the world, had a passion for baking, and loved spending time with her beloved family, including her second family of friends in Scottsdale. When visiting her childhood home in Morrison, Lorna could be found in the family kitchen, canning and baking. She enjoyed life to the fullest and was always smiling with her contagious laugh. Her family and friends will miss her deeply, however, they will always hold onto the memories.
Lorna is survived by nieces and nephews, Joyce Ott, John Richard Boland, Diane Rick, Debby Makarius, David Rick, Dawn Holt, and Sandra Burleson; many great-nieces and -nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willis; four sisters, Marjorie Boland, Averil Parker, Faith Hammer, Sarah Rick; one brother, Millard Hammer; one nephew, Roger Lee Boland.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 10, 2014, at Morrison United Methodist Church, in Morrison, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m.
Interment will be at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison, IL.
A memorial to Morrison United Methodist Church has been established.
