Chamber of Commerce Director LeAnn Schaefer took the photograph and interviewed Kyle Lorenz.
Since he retired from State of Illinois work, Kyle Lorenz has worked part-time for Willett Hofmann Associates, Inc. of Sterling, IL. As a Civil Engineer 3, he inspects roadways during construction–or reconstruction–overseeing job sites, to be sure contractors follow the specifications. He set aside those weighty responsibilities on Friday, July 2, 2021, to honor the men who are recreating an improved version of Main Street, Morrison, IL. Lorenz fed over a dozen of those fellows a fried fish and zucchini lunch.
He told Chamber of Commerce Director LeAnn Schaefer he does this “once a year” to show the construction teams they did great job and to show that he “cares about them.”
In Robert A. Millikan Pocket Park, abutting the Chamber office at 221 W. Main Street, Lorenz set up his fryer. He is the man in the gray t-shirt. He blends two kinds of Andy’s Fish Breading.
But, this avid fisherman prepares for his annual fish fry long before the meal occurs. Five varieties of freshwater fish were live-caught by Lorenz, at wide-ranging locations. Some fishing holes were excavating ponds in Princeton, IL, owned by Joe Gensini Excavation, Hennepin, IL.
