Lois Long, 93, of Morrison, IL, died Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at Prophets Riverview Good Samaritan Center in Prophetstown, IL.
Lois was born May 23, 1921, in Chicago, IL, to Richard W. and Martha (Geleng) Schmitt. She married Jack Long on June 10, 1944, in Chicago, IL. He died March 5, 1968. Lois was employed as a church secretary in California and was a self-employed dog groomer. She was also employed by the Tri-County Opportunities Council Head Start program in Morrison, as a classroom aid, where she was known as “Grandma Lois.” Lois was currently a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Morrison, and was active in various church related activities. She was a former member of the Crystal Cathedral Church in Garden Grove, CA, and was a member of the church’s television choir. Lois enjoyed reading and knitting; she knit many sweaters for the World Vision Knit for Kids program. Her passion was anything related to dogs and dog care.
Survivors include her sister, Betty (Don) Stralow of Morrison; extended family, including Janet (Jim) Groll of Des Plaines, IL, and Bob (Deb) Stone of Morrison; her foster daughter, Joyce Talbot of Island Lake, IL; a goddaughter, Phyllis Schneider; special friend, Kate Rambo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack; one sister, Eleanore Loose-Hiller; one brother, Robert Schmitt.
Cremation rites have been accorded. The Morrison Chapel – Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
