Lois J. Lawrenz, 79, of Morrison, IL, died Saturday, April 12, 2014, in the Four Seasons Living Center, Morrison.
Lois was born August 12, 1934, in Garden Plain, IL, the daughter of Harry B. and A. Nauta (Flikkema) Sterenberg. She graduated from Fulton High School in 1952 and worked for Fulton School District until 1959. She married Gilbert D. Lawrenz on December 29, 1959, in Fulton, IL. She was a member of Emmanuel Reformed Church, Morrison. Lois played the church organ for 38 years, served on various boards, and sang in the Emmanuel choir. Lois was active in Pork Producers and Red Meat Council while on the farm. Later in life, Lois worked as a bus aide and cook for the Head Start program for several years. The Lawrenzes enjoyed camping and fishing. Lois was a talented seamstress and enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
Survivors include her husband, Gilbert Lawrenz of Morrison; one daughter, Lori (Glen) Sams of Excelsior Springs, MO; one daughter-in-law, Renee (Mark) Lawrenz-Whilhite, Sterling, IL; four grandchildren, Jarod and Jordan Sams of Excelsior Springs and Austin and Patricia Lawrenz of Sterling; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Herlein of Holland, MI; one brother, Laverne (Elma) Sterenberg of Fulton.
She is preceded in death by her parents; one son, Gary Lawrenz; one brother-in -aw, James Herlein.
The visitation is Friday, April 18, 2014, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Reformed Church, Morrison, IL.
The funeral is Saturday, April 19, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at Emmanuel Reformed Church, Morrison, IL.
In lieu of flowers memorials have been established to the Emmanuel Reformed Church Music Ministry, Morrison, IL, and The King’s Camp, Chana, IL.
