Local Peace Poster Winner Announced

Eight Morrison Junior High art students entered the Lions International Peace Poster contest.  The theme was “Peace, Love, and Understanding.”  Three members served on the committee and selected the finalist: Martha Kophamer, Darlene Smith, and Flora Stralow.  Katelyn Vos was selected as the winner and was presented with a check from the club.

Vos’s poster has been forwarded to the District for further competition.  Other participants included Cassidy Stoecker, Mia Waddell, Jazmine Callan, Hannah Wallander, Destini Waters, Molly Neumann, and Gracen Harmon.  The club expresses a sincere thank you to all the participants and to Art Teacher, Nick Bonneur.  The participants worked on their entries outside of class.  Bonneur gave support and worked with them.  All the posters have been placed on display in the window at Kophamer-Blean Realty office, 118 E. Main Street, Morrison, IL.  Be sure to stop by to view the work and detail done by the students.

The ham orders for Thanksgiving have been delivered, but there is still time to order a delicious ham for Christmas dinner or as a gift.  The hams are fresh, fully cooked, smoked, and boneless.  Approximate sizes are 7-to-10 pounds and 10-to-20 pounds.  Christmas orders must be received by Sunday, December 7, 2014, with delivery of the hams on Friday, December 19.

Club members are donating caps, scarves, and mittens to the Helping Hand Group for needy families, when gifts are distributed on Thursday, December 18.  Collections continue through Tuesday, December 16.  The club also approved eye glass assistance for a local resident.

City Administrator Barry Dykhuizen presented an interesting and informative program to members at the Tuesday, November 4, meeting.  The presentation included information on the new City water treatment plant and the issues with water line breaks.  

All are welcome to attend any of our meetings, held on the first and third Tuesday of each month at Happy Joe’s, 109 W.
