Lions Recycle Day September 28

LionsLogoThe Second Annual Morrison Recycle Day will be held rain or shine at the Whiteside County Fairgrounds, 201 W. Winfield Street, Morrison, IL, on Saturday, September 28, 2019.  Hours are 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Enter only at the east (livestock) gate.  Participants will receive a map at the entrance and a coupon for a tasty treat at Morrison DQ Grill & Chill.  Monetary donations gratefully will be accepted at the exit.

All items listed below will be accepted at no charge, except computer monitors, televisions, and microwaves.  To cover costs of recycling these items, Lions will collect $25 for large TVs/computer monitors and $15 for smaller units.  A flat $15 will be assessed for microwaves.  Only cash will be accepted, and there is a limit of five TVs and/or monitors.  Self Help Enterprises joins with the Lions to offer this service.

The event will feature help from several local not-for-profit groups ,including volunteers from the Morrison High School Key Club, FFA, and Boy Scout Troop 96.  Scouts will accept aluminum cans and lend assistance when needed.  The Lions Club appreciates the willingness of our area youth to help with this great community service project.

Free document shredding is from 9:00 to noon, thanks to a partnership with Whiteside County Farm Bureau.  There is a limit of three bags or boxes.  There can be no plastic or metal such as paper clips, binders, etc. in the papers.  For larger quantities contact Brad Radtke at Tri-State Shred at 563-582-9477 or bradtke@tristateshred.com to coordinate a drop off time.

Morrison FFA Chapter joined with the Lions to manage the area for free drop off of scrap metal, household appliances, and electronics.  FFA will benefit from the proceeds of recycling those items.  This year, Yarbrough Appliances will provide a trailer, as will area resident Larry DeWitte, who will offer his knowledge of sorting the scrap metal and electronics.  Items accepted include vacuum cleaners, power and lawn tools, refrigerators, washers, dryers, ovens, dehumidifiers, freezers, cords, and water heater tanks.  Accepted electronics include computers, fax machines, telephones, calculators, cameras, camcorders, CD and DVD players, VCRs, keyboards, projectors, printers, scanners, shredders, and modems.

Free drop off will also be offered for paper products, such as hard/soft cover books, catalogs, magazines, phone books, and corrugated boxes.  This area will be managed by First Presbyterian and Christian Reformed Churches.  Paper items should be separated by type.

Morrison Police will accept old prescriptions and over the counter medicines, vitamins, and pet medications that are emptied into clear plastic bags.  No bottles, needles, syringes, or liquids will be accepted.  Ammunition will also be accepted by MPD.

CarQuest Morrison Auto Supply will receive vehicle batteries including 6, 12, and 24 volt lead acid batteries from vehicles, mowers, motorcycles, boats, RVs, and heavy equipment.  Household batteries are not accepted.  Used motor oil and antifreeze can be dropped off at Schuler Motors, Inc., 727 W. Lincolnway, Morrison.

American Legion will collect used flags.  Morrison Lions will collect eye glasses hearing aids, keys, decorative string lights, cell phones, and small size printer cartridges.

We cannot accept hazardous waste, paints, tires, propane tanks, plastic items, aerosol cans, water softener tanks, household batteries, smoke detectors, or light bulbs.  We reserve the right to refuse any item.
