Jansma EwoldsenAt the Tuesday, May 5, 2015, meeting, Ken Jansma, left, introduced Kim Ewoldsen, Executive Director of the Morrison Chamber of Commerce and the Morrison Area Development Corporation.  Bringing in new business to Morrison, making programs available to members, getting the community involved, Chamber newsletters issued often, holding Open Houses to receive ideas and hear from the community are some of her goals.  As Executive Director of MADC, she is working on programs for rehabilitation of buildings and seeking to encourage people to move to Morrison, including workers at the Thomson, IL, Prison.

Ewoldsen also discussed an entrepreneur program called CEO–Creating Entrepreneurial Opportunities–involving high school students.  It allows them to set up a small business, sell their products, and do a trade show at the mall in Sterling, IL.  The purpose of this program is to keep the young in the community, where they perhaps will start a new business or secure a job locally, after improving their business and social skills.

On Saturday, May 16, club members completed the spring U. S. Highway 30 clean up, which the Lions have performed as a community project for many years.  The clean up crew is shown left-to-right:  Aaron Johnson, Jim Blakemore, Keith Hamstra, Tracy Muur, and Bob Countryman.  Denny Countryman also helped with clean up and was the photographer.

The picnic pavilion at the Morrison Sports Complex, 15201 Bishop Road, Morrison, will be formally dedicated on Sunday, May 31.  The pavilion was the club-sponsored project recognizing 75 years of “WE SERVE” in the Morrison community.  The club extends a sincere thank you to all who gave to this much needed project.  Additional monies received above the cost of the pavilion were used to purchase benches, picnic tables, a sturdy waste receptacle, landscaping, and an outdoor water fountain to be located at the concession stand.
