Lions Club Ham Orders Due December 8

Posted by

HalfSpiralHamThere is still time to order a delicious “ready-to-eat” cooked, smoked, and boneless ham. The final date to order has been changed to Friday, December 8, 2017. You may contact any Lions Club member or Bob Smith, 772-2896, Flora Stralow, 772-4874, Jim Blakemore, 772-3744, or Rebecca Green, 815/535-3290. Spiral hams are also available this year.

Your support of this fundraiser helps our club continue the Lions Motto, “We Serve” in our community, as well as at the State and international levels.

If you have any decorating lights that are no longer working, don’t throw them away. Please bring them to Kophamer and Blean Realty, 118 E. Main Street, Morrison, IL. The strings are stripped, and the wire is sold. Funds received go to the Lions of Illinois Foundation for vision and hearing projects.

Lions Club members are again donating caps, scarves, gloves, and mittens for the Helping Hand Organization. Members were reminded to have their donations made by Tuesday, December 19. One request was received for eyeglass assistance and was approved by the club. The week of November 13 through 19, 2017, was Diabetes Awareness Week. Information on diabetes was distributed on Tuesday, November 14, by Darlene Smith and Flora Stralow at Sullivan’s Foods. Both reported hearing stories of those affected by the disease.

District Governor Steve Boettger and First Lady Kelly Boettger visited our club on Tuesday, November 7. He extended greetings from International President Dr. Naresh Aggarwal. The District Governor’s theme is “The Power of We” and places emphasis on gaining new members and making sure clubs report their service activities.

The project for this year as District Governor is to raise $40,000, to be donated to the “Restoring Hope Transplant House” in Madison, WI. This project is very dear to him, as he received a heart transplant in the winter of 2015. His wife stayed at the home while he was hospitalized, and both stayed there after his release. Presently, there are only six rooms, but the demand for this type of service is increasing. An expansion project is being planned to increase available rooms to 16. It is a non-profit organization, and transplant patients stay at the home at a very low cost.

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, December 5, at noon at Happy Joe’s, 109 W. Main Street, Morrison. Flora Stralow is in charge of the program. The speaker will be Chris Scott, President of Morrison Institute of Technology.

Anyone interested in learning more about Lions is invited to any of our meetings, held on the first and third Tuesday of the month, at Happy Joe’s, at noon.
