It is not too late to place your order for a delicious fresh, fully-cooked, smoked and boneless ham for Christmas. Delivery will be on Wednesday, December 19, 2018. Contact a Lions Club member or call Jim Blakemore, 772-3744, Bob Smith, 772-2896, or Flora Stralow, 772-4874.
As you decorate for Christmas (or any other time of the year) if you find you have string lights that no longer work, please remember to donate them to the Lions Club. You may leave the lights at Kophamer and Blean Realty, 118 E. Main Street, in Morrison, IL.
Morrison Lions Club will hold another Recycle Day in 2019 as a service project. Please mark the date on your calendar: Saturday, September 14, 2019. The event will again be at the Whiteside County Fairgrounds; more information will be provided closer to the date.
Lions Club members recognized Diabetes Awareness Day on Wednesday, November 14, at Sullivan’s Foods, by distributing diabetes information sheets and sugar free suckers. Diabetes is a leading cause of blindness, and Lions participate in this effort to inform people on the disease.
Club members were provided with the Candy Day report. A big thank you goes out to community members and many business owners who donated dollars. A portion of the total funds is forwarded to Lions of Illinois Foundation for vision and hearing needs. The balance stays locally and is used for vision, hearing, and community needs.
Steve Wroble had the program for the meeting on Tuesday, November 6. The club welcomed previous program presenters Connie and Ron Koehn, shown left-to-tight with Wroble. Entitled “Presidents–Rest and Relaxation,” the new presentation proved to be interesting, informative, and fun. The span of Presidents were from Teddy Roosevelt to Barack Obama. Some of the unusual ways of rest included President Taft eating to get away from a job he did not like, to President Coolidge taking three-to-four long naps.
Anyone is welcome to come to our meetings, held on the first and third Tuesday of the month at Happy Joe’s Pizza, 109 W. Main Street, Morrison, at noon. You will find good fellowship, excellent programs, and, best of all, how Lions fulfill their motto–“We Serve.”
