Attention Morrison Residents:
It is the season that asthmatics and people with pulminory issues dread: Leaf Burning. My husband, daughter, and mother-in-law suffer with asthma. Leaf burning (even when limited to a few days a week) has devastating effects on their breathing and ability to participate in activities. Burning leaf smoke makes it impossible for them to go outside on burn days. Not only do they struggle to breathe on burning days, their lung functioning is affected for days after.
As a community, we also have infants, people dependent on oxygen, a large elderly population, and folks who struggle with a variety of pulminory issues. They also are negatively impacted by leaf burning.
And then there is the environmental impact of burning. The benefits of avoiding bagging your leaves are not worth the cost it has on others’ health.
If a well-groomed lawn is important to you, please consider bagging, rather than burning.
If you or a loved one struggles with pulminory concerns and/or if you support this cause, please call your Alderman and express your support of a leaf burning ban within the City limits of Morrison.
