Letter and Gift from Sharon Boyles

When I was a young girl, one of my chores was to get the mail.  Each day, I looked at the name of the recipient and hoped it was me.  It usually was not, but I still looked and hoped.  I remember that around my birthday, I got mail!  For me, that was a big part of celebrating my birthday.  It always brought a smile to my face and made me feel special.

Lately, I have been creating art that is inspired by simple things from my childhood.  As I create each piece, I am reminded of other experiences and happy times I shared with friends and family.  During this time of physical separation, a thought occurred to me.

Why not mail someone a card recalling a special memory of a time shared with them?  Maybe I could even include a photograph.  Another thought is to just say I’m thinking of them and hope they are well.  Whatever the message, I bet they will feel special, and a smile will come to their face.

In an effort to encourage others to do this, I decided to give away my sets of notecards, that are currently available at The Loft on Main, 112 E. Main Street, Morrison, IL.  The cards are prints of pictures I made using tiny pieces of fabric.

In an attempt to limit the spread of germs, I will use gloved hands to put the cards in new plastic bags and put the bags outside the door to The Loft on Main for anyone to pick up.  All I ask is that people pick up one bag and leave with it.

After that, my hope is that these colorful notecards will be used to make someone feel special.

The bags will be put outside the front door on Thursday, April 9, 2020.
