leroy hudsonLeroy J. Hudson, 93, of Erie, IL, died Saturday, June 27, 2015, at the Hammond–Henry Long Term Care Facility.

Leroy John Hudson was born October 23, 1921, in Fenton Township, near Erie, the son of Charles and Freida (Geerts) Hudson. He graduated from Erie High School in 1939. On March 9, 1947, he married Mary E. Slaymaker at the Erie United Methodist Church. Leroy was a lifelong farmer in the Fenton and Newton Township areas of Whiteside County. In addition to farming he worked as a carpenter, helping to build several area homes.
Leroy was a member of Erie United Methodist Church, Whiteside County Farm Bureau, and the Whiteside County Pork Producers. Over the years he had served as the Director of the Erie Cooperative Elevator and was a board member of the former Whiteside County Bank in Morrison. Leroy was an avid reader, took an interest in history, and loved being with his family. In his earlier years, he enjoyed bowling in a league for the Whiteside County FS and playing cards with friends. He is remembered for always trying to find a way to improve his farmland and livestock operation, while always keeping his family first.

Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Mary Hudson; three sons and their spouses, Tom (Cindy) Hudson, Geneseo, IL, Rich (Lisa) Hudson, DeWitt, IA, John (Theresa) Hudson, Morris, IL; grandchildren, Allison Hudson, Geneseo, Shawn (Stephanie) Hudson, Blue Grass, IA, Anne Hudson, Morris; brothers, Duane (Arlene) Hudson, Moberly, MO, and Neal (Bonnie) Hudson, Morrison, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at the Gibson–Bode Funeral Home, Erie, IL.

Funeral services and burial in the Erie, IL, Cemetery will be private.

Memorials may be made to Erie United Methodist Church, the Alzheimer’s Association, or simply by performing a random act of kindness for someone else in Leroy’s memory.
