Leon C. Ottens, 88, of Morrison, IL, died Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling, IL.
Leon was born March 4, 1933, in Fulton, IL, to Garrett C. and Gertrude (Housenga) Ottens. He attended Union Grove and Ustick Township Grade Schools and Fulton High School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Leon married Joyce E. Hoogheem on November 16, 1956, in Fulton. He worked for the railroad and for Butcher Industrial Movers. He farmed in the Chadwick, IL, and Morrison areas for many years. Leon was a member of First Reformed Church in Fulton. He was also a member of the American Legion and the VFW. Leon enjoyed bowling and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce; daughter, Pam (Weeter Weiting) Murdock of Savanna, IL; sons, Kelby (Gloria Ivey) Ottens and Kendall Ottens both of Morrison; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Betty (Albert) Vos of Morrison; brothers, Richard (Marlene) Ottens, Gary Ottens, and James (Barb) Ottens all of Morrison.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Alberta Decker; nephews, Bart Hoogheem, Kevin VanZuiden, and Corey Ottens.
His Funeral Service will be held at Noon, on Monday, November 8, 2021, at First Reformed Church in Fulton, IL, with Rev. Chuck Huckaby officiating.
The Visitation will precede the service, from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
Interment will be at Fulton Township Cemetery at a later date.
A memorial has been established.
