“Legacies of Savanna II” will be presented on Sunday, November 4, 2018, at the Savanna Museum and Cultural Center, 406 Main Street, Savanna, IL. November 4, a special day, is also the 190th anniversary of the founding of Savanna. The presentations will be held in the Community Room of the museum. A donation of $8 will be appreciated.
First-person presenters will portray six of Savanna’s former citizens:
- Luther Bowen, said to have been one of Savanna’s most enterprising and influential citizens
- Joseph Withhart established what would be four-generations in the meat cutting/butcher shop business
- Charlie Jenks, instrumental in building the original Savanna-Sabula Bridge
- Svea Adolphson, highly respected educator
- Dr. Lemuel Hussey, home town physician who delivered thousands of babies
- Don Nichols, Prisoner of War, who survived the Bataan Death March.
Jean Ferris, creator of the event, said, “I want to honor past citizens from different eras and walks of life. The stories are important to our history and help us define who and what we are today. The figures will be portrayed with dignity and respect, as we learn about their lives and the legacies they have left us. The event is suitable for all ages. History comes alive as life stories of these citizens are told.”
