Lawrence P. “Larry” Vanderploeg, 72, of Fulton, IL, died Friday, November 22, 2019, at Resthave Care & Rehabilitation in Morrison, IL.
Larry was born March 21, 1947, in Clinton, IA, to Palmer and Rena (De Witt) Vanderploeg. He was educated in the Fulton Grade Schools and was a graduate of Fulton High School. He served in the U. S. Army from 1966 until 1969 at Ft. Bliss in El Paso, TX, and in Korea. Larry married Roberta L. Mitchell on October 1, 1966, in Fulton. He was employed by General Electric in Morrison, IL, International Paper, and Red Jacket Pumps; he retired from Archer Daniels Midland. Larry was a member of Second Reformed Church in Fulton and the Fulton American Legion Post #402. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, camping, and the outdoors. Larry liked building and fixing computers and being “Mr. Fix-it” for family and friends. He was an avid NASCAR fan, with his favorite driver being Dale Earnhardt, Sr.
Survivors include his wife, Roberta; stepmother, Cornelia Vanderploeg of Clinton; sons, Craig (Brenda) Vanderploeg of Fulton and Kevin Vanderploeg of East Moline, IL; grandchildren, Jessica, Nicole, Joshua, Nathan, and Katarina Vanderploeg; brothers, Ken (Judy) Vanderploeg of Fulton and Leon (Kay) Vanderploeg of Morrison, CO.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 25, 2019, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, with visitation from 9:00 a.m., until the time of the service. Rev. Kevin VerHoeven, Pastor of Thrive Ministries, Fulton, IL, Campus, will officiate.
Interment will be at Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton, IL.
A memorial has been established by the family.
