Lawrence “Larry” W. Farthing, 88, of Morrison, IL, died Sunday, July 7, 2019, at Resthave Care & Rehabilitation in Morrison, IL.
Larry was born on June 23, 1931, to Marshall and Ivy B. (Olson) Farthing in Morrison. He was educated in the Clyde Township schools of rural Whiteside County. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. On October 10, 1952, he married Carrol J. Anderson in Chadwick, IL. Larry farmed his entire life at many different locations in Ogle and Whiteside County. He also worked at the former Northwestern Steel and Wire in Sterling, IL. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He and his wife, Carrol, enjoyed going to flea markets, and they spent their winters in McAllen, TX. Larry’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Carrol; three daughters, Marsha Ecker-Heiden of Morrison, Teresa Dever of Stillman Valley, IL, and Angela (Dave) Gorzny of Morrison; three sons, Lamont (Susan) Farthing of Morrison, Kenneth Farthing of Morrison ,and Keith (Sheri) Farthing of Hartford, WI; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nancy (Bob) Gipe of Pearl City, IL, and Mrs. Betty Wager of Creston, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Shirley Prowant; one brother, Lamont Farthing.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 13, 2019, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, with Ken Renkes officiating.
A visitation will precede the funeral, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
Interment will be in Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison, IL.
A memorial has been established by the family.
