Laura E. Fitzwater-Healless (1963 – 2019)

laura heallessLaura E. Fitzwater-Healless, 55, of Erie, IL, died Wednesday, April 17, 2019, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, IA.

Laura was born June 20, 1963, in Morrison, IL, the daughter of Coy and Lois (Alls) Fitzwater.  She graduated from Erie High School and went on to receive her Bachelor’s Degree from Arkansas State University and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Iowa.  Laura practiced as a Counselor at the State Prison in Newton, IA.  She was forced to retire because of her battle with cancer.

Laura enjoyed playing sports in high school and was very passionate about following her nephew’s football and basketball games at Camanche High School.  She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.  Laura loved traveling and made the claim that she jad visited all 50 states, Alaska being her favorite.  She was a kind-hearted person who went out of her way to care for others in need. Laura cherished her family and her beloved dog, Bella, as well as her four cats.

Surviving are her mother, Lois Fitzwater, Erie; sisters, Cindy Wittek, Morrison, and Kathy (DuWayne) Ottens, Clinton, IA; nieces and nephew, Kimberly (Jason) Barten, Kristin (Brian) Turner, Calvin Ottens (Brittany Adams); great-niece and great-nephew, Leia and Logan Turner; special friend, Ron Kuehl; many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, Coy.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at the Gibson-Bode Funeral Home, Erie, IL.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., on Monday, April22, 2019, at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Erie Cemetery, Erie, IL.

Memorials may be made to Hope Lodge, Iowa City.
