While scrolling through Facebook on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, the Editor came across an attractive, unique, seasonal stamp scam. It was written by an illiterate scammer, with little precision. This advertisement was selling “a packet” of 100 postage stamps. It stated stamps were “on sale” for “$39.9” “from U. S Post Office.”
Are you counting the inaccuracies so far? They are not the Editor’s typos.
Morrison, IL, Postmistress Missy Matz verified this is a scam. Some of the stamps on the ad are old and unavailable now, she said, like the Coca-Cola Santas. In the photos was the holiday wreath series of 2020. Lots of flags cast a patriotic lure. These are just pictures.
Finally, legitimate stamps may come in a roll, little booklet, or sheet–all the stamps in those formats are the same design. They are never sold loose in a “100 pack,” with multiple, single-stamps.
The legitimate USPS (United States Postal Service) has four letters in its abbreviation, with no periods. It does not have stamp sales. Hopefully, no one will write the dollar amount as $39.9 to order a bag of online, bogus postage stamps.
