Friday night, January 23, 2016, at Morrison High School was the perfect example of what high school sports is all about. Arch rival Riverdale came to visit. The scene was set: great crowd, energetic environment, equally competitive teams, entertaining contest between halves, and TV stations filming. This was a game that was decided with a late three-pointer, followed by a missed free throw that would have caused overtime. That is Friday night sports at its best!
Morrison opened the first quarter with a 10-4 advantage, before the Rams fired in four three-pointers to take a 17-14 lead. Second and third quarters saw aggressive three-quarter court pressure defense by the Mustangs that caused the Rams problems. The three-pointer kept the Rams in the lead as the clock ran down.
With 57 seconds remaining, Noah Hogue drilled a three-pointer from the right arc and gave Morrison a 48-46 lead. At the 17.4 second mark, Riverdale was awarded a one-and-one free throw opportunity. Only the first attempt made it through the net. A Morrison rebound sealed the win at 48-47.
