Larry F. Atherton, 77, of Thomson, IL, died Saturday, June 8, 2019, at his home.
Larry was born July 17, 1941, in Savanna, IL, to Merle L. and Ihla E. (Jones) Atherton. He was educated in the Thomson Grade and High Schools. Larry married Joan Titus on August 4, 1962, in Fremont Center, IL. He was the owner and operator of Larry Atherton Trucking in Thomson. He was a former member of the American Trucking Association. Larry enjoyed farming, gardening, and collecting baseball caps. He was an avid bowler, bowling in leagues in Savanna and Fulton, IL. Larry was also a cat lover.
Survivors include his wife, Joan; one daughter, Lori (Casey) Cooling of Durant, IA; one son, Dan (Tina) Atherton of Avon, IL; four grandchildren, Stephanie and Andrew Crippen; Rachel and Blair Atherton; three step-grandchildren, Corey, Clare, and Charley Cooling; one brother, Robert (Margo) Atherton of Morrison, IL; two sisters-in- law, Beverly Atherton of Thomson and Linda (Rich) Klyman of East Moline, IL; three brothers-in-law, Albert ( Linda) Titus of Gages Lake, IL, Larry(Jacquie) Titus of White Water, WI, and James Titus of New Glarus, WI.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, David M. Atherton; two brothers, Merle “John” Atherton, Jr., and Richard Atherton.
The funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, with Father Moises A. Apostol, Pastor of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Savanna, IL, officiating.
Visitation will be from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 11, 2019, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home.
Interment will be at Lower York Cemetery in Thomson, IL.
A memorial has been established by the family.
