The Morrison Fillies Basketball Team started the new year following a disappointing holiday tournament showing, with a home encounter with the Sherrard, IL, Lady Tigers owning a 13-4 season record on Monday, January 4, 2016.
The Tigers jumped quickly to a 5-0 lead before the Fillies made the scoreboard with four consecutive free throws. The first quarter ended with a Sherrard advantage of 12-8. The Fillies’ defense held the Tigers to four points. They made only one of 11 attempts in the second quarter and went in at the half tied at 16.
The third quarter started with Sherrard’s Junior Faith Anderson connecting for three consecutive three-pointers. The Fillies could only connect on one basket the entire quarter and ended the third period down by seven, 29-22.
Kassidee Church aided the efforts in the fourth quarter with two three-pointers. But the Tigers controlled the scoreboard by attempting 20 free throws and prevented a loss to the 7-8 Fillies.
Anderson led all scorers with 23 points, and Church topped the Fillies with 18.
