L. Ruth Bos (1921 – 2016)

l ruth bosL. Ruth Bos, 95, of Clinton, IA, formerly of Fulton, IL, died Saturday, January 30, 2016, at Bickford Cottage in Clinton.

Ruth was born January 14, 1921, in Chadwick, IL, to James Roy and Alma O. (Imel) Bailey. She was a 1939 graduate of Fulton High School in Fulton and attended two years of various college classes. Ruth married Henry A. Bos on December 7, 1942, in San Antonio, TX. He died June 7, 2008. Ruth was employed by the Illinois Department of Public Aid from 1949 until she retired in 1981. She was a current member of Fulton Presbyterian Church in Fulton and a charter member of the Assembly of God Church in Fulton. There she served as a Sunday School teacher, Church Secretary, Treasurer, and Advisory Board member, and was involved in Women’s Missions. Ruth was a member of the American Public Welfare Association from 1955 to 1967 and the Illinois Welfare Association from 1949 to 1985 and served as Association Secretary and Treasurer for 20 years. She also served on the Mental Health Planning Board from 1975 to 1977, as President of the Fulton Food Pantry, and as Secretary for Whiteside County C.U.P. (Christians Upholding Prisoners.) Ruth was one of the founders of Whiteside County Hospice Association and the Fulton American Legion Auxiliary. She served on the Board of Directors of Harbor Crest Home in Fulton and Mercy Home Healthcare and Hospice in Clinton. Ruth was a “Rules of the Road” instructor for the Illinois Secretary of State for many years. She also served as an election judge for Fulton Township for 20 years.

Survivors include one sister, Clarissa (Lawrence) Schluter of Armstrong, IL, and one brother, LeRoy (Diana) Bailey of Morrison, IL; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Henry; one sister, Gladys Lartz.

FUNERAL SERVICE:  10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 3, 2016, at the Fulton Presbyterian Church, Fulton, IL

OFFICIATING:  Rev. Dr. James A. Camp

VISITATION:  5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 2, 2016, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home

INTERMENT:  Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton, IL

MEMORIALS:  Fulton Presbyterian Church and Fulton Food Pantry
