Sunshine and the temperature around 64°made for a pleasant day to make an outdoor gift presentation, at 2;00 p.m., on Friday, February 17, 2017. Steve Hollister, representing St. Mary’s Catholic Church Knights of Columbus, presented Tawny Wiersema with a check for $1182.70, to support White Oaks Equestrian Riding Center (WHOA) horse riding classes. Hollister stated his organization uses income from their Tootsie Roll Drive to fund persons with intellectual disabilities. WHOA has been a recipient for years.
“This donation is only a portion” of the funds raised. In December 2016, they “gave about $500 to the [Morrison Community Unit School] District.”
WHOA Board officers are President Tami Tegeler; Vice President/Secretary Erin Luckey; Treasurer Carol Stichter. Board members include Niki Thede and Sandi Vanderleest. Wiersema is the Program Director.
Wiersema stated the organization “is planning an early June opening. Twelve people responded to a text today, in order to select a day” for classes. “We have six prospects for horses and hope to have two instructors.”
