Kevin Dykema, 56, of Camanche, IA, passed away Monday, July 14, 2014, at his home.
Kevin was born September 10, 1957, in Monterey, CA, the son of Arthur and Jacqueline (Long) Dykema. Kevin was united in marriage to Laurel Barker on July 2, 1977, in Morrison, IL. Laurel would later lose her hard-fought battle to cancer.
Kevin worked for more than 25 years at Drives LLC in Fulton, IL. He later went back to school at Scott Community College, acquiring his commercial driver’s license, and truck driving became his new career and passion.
Kevin loved the outdoors, especially riding horses, riding all-terrain vehicles, and going for trips on his Honda Gold Wing motorcycle. He also enjoyed playing pool for various teams in the area. Above all, he loved his family very much. He enjoyed watching his son race at Cordova, and loved spending time with his grandkids. He also loved Buddy, his faithful dog and companion. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Kevin is survived by his two children, Heather (Brent) Toppert of Morrison and Andrew Dykema of Camanche; three grandchildren, Bradley, Embrey, and Kyver at home; his father, Arthur (Sherry) Dykema of Sterling, IL; three sisters, Sandra (Jim) Colley of Abilene, TX, Marion (Tim Nye) Wilkins of Fulton, and Susan (Wanetta) Dykema-Sterner of Wilton, IA; one brother, Jonathan (Diane) Dykema of Morrison; many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jacqueline; his wife, Laurel; one grandson, Cayden.
p>Honoring his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.
A celebration of his life will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday at Lemke Funeral Homes, South Chapel, 2610 Manufacturing Drive, just west of Clinton, IA, Lawn Cemetery.
