Kenneth Wayne Newlon, 87, of Sterling, IL, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at his home.
Ken was born on April 2, 1936, in Sterling, the son of Virgil and Ruth (Blackert) Newlon. He attended Hooppole, IL, grade schools and graduated from Annawan, IL, High School. He married Annetta Morgan, April 1955 in Tampico, IL. Annetta died unexpectedly, September 1969, leaving Ken with three children. He married Mary Hurd in July 2007 at Chapel on the Hill in Geneseo, IL. Ken loved to spend time talking on the phone, going to Culver’s, and the YMCA. Best of all, he loved going to friends’ homes for coffee and cookies.
Ken owned and operated Ken’s Mobile Milling and Feed Service. He worked for Thermo Gas of Prophetstown, IL, and was a hog livestock buyer for Interstate Producers and George Thomson & Son of Prophetstown. He retired from Interstate Producers in Milledgeville, IL.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary; children, Cindy (Rick) Childs of Mineral, IL, Steve Newlon of St. Louis, MO, and Scott (Jennifer) Newlon of Wisconsin Dells, WI; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Gloria (Richard) Morris of Arlington Heights, IL; brother, Richard (Dottie) Newlon of Hoschton, GA; brothers-in-law, Arlyn Tegeler of Morrison, IL, and Jack Morgan of Rock Falls, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Annetta; granddaughter, Denez Newlon; sister, Shirley Tegeler.
A Gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m,. at Wesley United Methodist Church in Sterling, IL.
A memorial service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the church, with Reverend Paul Lee, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Ken’s name to Wesley United Methodist Church or the CGH Health Foundation’s Dementia Project.
