Kenneth L. McDonald, 86, of Marion, IA, formerly of Lyndon, IL, died Monday, January 1, 2018, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, IA, following a short illness.
Born October 9, 1931, in Orange Township, Knox County, IL, Kenneth was the son of Murle Avery and Martha Ellen (Howarter) McDonald. He grew up in the Thomas/New Bedford/Tampico, IL, area. He was united in marriage to Dolores Joan Hayen on July 29, 1956, at Lyndon United Methodist Church in Lyndon. She preceded him in death on November 28, 2014. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
Kenneth worked for John Deere for 20 years, retiring in 1993, and had previously worked for General Electric in Morrison, IL, for 10 years. He was a member of the former Lyndon United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Men, served as a Lay Speaker, and previously taught Sunday school for 20 years. Ken served as past Trustee of Lyndon Township Cemetery and was a member of the Prophetstown American Legion.
Those surviving include his children, Learl (Janine) McDonald of Mendota, IL, Kathleen (Rick) Michael of Princeton, IL, Marlene (Gordon) Booth of Marion, and Neil (Pam) McDonald of Georgetown, IN; a nephew, Christopher; an uncle, Lyle McDonald of Morrison; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a brother, Verle.
Visitation will be on Saturday, January 6, 2018, from 9:30 to 11 :00 a.m., at McDonald Funeral Home, 46 Grove Street, Illinois Route 78 N, Prophetstown, IL.
The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 6, 2018, at the funeral home, with Pastor Janice Shaulis, officiating.
Burial will be at Lyndon Township Cemetery.
