Kenneth J. Huizenga, 90, of Morrison, IL, passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at his home.
Kenneth was born May 9, 1934, in Albany, IL, to Jacob and Alice (Housenga) Huizenga. He attended Williams Grade School and Cordova High School in Cordova, IL. He served for two years in the U. S. Army in Korea. He married Luella Rus on October 26, 1956, at the Newton Zion Reformed Church in rural Erie, IL. She passed away in December 1967. They had three children: Kevin, Karen, and Louise who died at birth. On November 22, 1968, he married Esther (Stralow) Schuler. After marriage to Esther, he moved from Albany to reside in Morrison.
Kenneth’s working career included several companies: American Air Filter, John Deere Harvester, Bunge Grain Terminal, Vend-O-Mack Sales, and the Whiteside County Courthouse, from where he retired in 1990. He was a member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church LCMS in Morrison and a charter member of the Morrison Kiwanis Club, where he served as Treasurer and received the George Hixson Fellowship Award.
Survivors include his wife, Esther; children, Kevin Huizenga of Newton, IA, Karen (Terry) Leif of Chadwick, IL, and Debra (Dennis) VanderVinne of Bettendorf, IA; stepson, Bruce (Gerrianne) Schuler of Caledonia, MI; 11 grandchildren, Jory Ringler, Kendra Huizenga, Jacob Huizenga, Kylea Ruiz, Tyler Isenhart, Sarah Leif, Carson Leif, Madeline Howell, Gabrielle VanderVinne, Ella Schuler, and Lola Schuler; six great-grandchildren; brother, Arnold (Marilyn) Huizenga of Fulton, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Luella; daughter Louise in infancy; sisters, Ella Mae Wherry and Marion Reynolds; brothers, Donald, John, Rolland, Harold, and Clifford Huizenga; grandson, Zachary Isenhart.
A Visitation followed by the Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church LCMS in Morrison, IL. The Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., with the Funeral Service starting at 11:00, officiated by Rev. Chad Bolosan. A luncheon at the church will follow the service.
The Interment at the Fulton Township Cemetery , Fulton, IL, is scheduled for later that afternoon, starting at 2:00 p.m.
Memorials to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and Gaffey Home Nursing & Hospice, Inc. have been established.
