Morrison St. Mary’s Knights of Columbus members held their annual Free Throw Competition on Saturday, January 30, 2016, at Morrison Junior High School, 305 E. Winfield Street, Morrison, IL.
According to Brock Helms, “about 30” boys and girls registered for the 1:00 p.m. event, held in the East Gymnasium. Other Knights of Columbus members included Terry Hoehn, left; Steve Hollister, center; Mark Kaiser, right; Kelvin Tenboer, not shown.
One at a time, simultaneously, boys and girls took 20 shots at opposite ends of the court.
Saturday’s top shooters were
nine-year-olds: Brenden Martin and Addyson Cox
ten-year-olds: Cooper Bush and Marissa Folkers
11-year-olds: Alex Anderson and Faith Green–shown below
12-year-olds: Nate Helms and Sarah Wallander
13-year-olds: Jonah Smallins and Grace Steines (Editor’s note: Because Smallins is unable to attend the District competition, second-highest scorer Nik Allen will advance.)
14-year-olds: Keegan Anderson and Hallah Wallander.
These dozen youth qualified for the District competition in Sunday, February 21, to be held at St. Andrew Catholic School, 701 11th Avenue, Rock Falls, IL.
Names were drawn for two boy’s and two girl’s basketballs. Winners included Koby Brackemyer, Isaac Melton, Faith Green, and Hannah Wallander.
