On Monday, January 12, 2015, 23 students in 6th through 8th grade competed in the annual spelling bee at Morrison Junior High School, 300 Academic Drive, Morrison, IL. After nine rounds, seventh-grader Hannah Stralow won the bee by spelling the word “surrogate” in the championship round.
Jacob Brown, eighth grade, was the runner up, and third place went to Anna Rinker, sixth grade.
Jacob and Hannah will be representing their school at the Whiteside County Spelling Bee, which will be held in Morrison at the Junior High on Tuesday, February 24, at 6:00 p.m. The winner of the Whiteside County Bee will compete in the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.
Hannah and Jacob are both strong spellers and have a great chance at winning the trip to the National Bee.
