Over the weekend of Saturday, June 22, and Sunday, June 23, Morrison Police Department conducted a Distracted Driver Detail, specifically identifying cellular phone usage violations. Distracted driving is a leading cause of traffic accidents, potentially causing damage to life and property. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly 19 percent of all fatal accidents in 2023 reported at least one driver using a cellular device. The detail resulted in the issuance of several Citations. Illinois is a hands-free State that prohibits using electronic communication devices, with a few exceptions.
