Charges listed below are accusations, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
06-18-14 at 3:57 a.m. Deputies were called to the scene of a train-verses-vehicle accident approximately 1/4 mile north of Cooper Road on County Line Road. A delivery vehicle driven by Matthew J. Wisniewski, 44 of Ottawa, IL, became stuck on the southbound track of the Union Pacific subdivision route. A southbound train struck the vehicle from the rear, sending it several yards down the roadway.
It is not believed that Wisniewski was inside the vehicle when it was struck. However, Wisniewski did receive injuries by a piece of debris. Wisniewski was transported to CGH Medical Center, Sterling, IL, by Walnut EMS for evaluation. Deputies were assisted on scene by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and agents from Union Pacific Railroad.
