Albany, IL, Chief of Police Wyatt M. Heyvaert reported, “With the first half of the 2018 year being completed, Albany Police Department has had an increase of the following:
• Traffic Related Arrest
• Felony Cases
• Cannabis/Methamphetamine Arrest
• Criminals in Possession of Firearms when encountered by Officers.”
“Officers make traffic stops for a variety of reasons. With Albany being a smaller law enforcement agency and not having 24-hour coverage, a traffic stop can be used to show the presence of Police within said community. Regarding the following cases, this shows an example of criminals being taken off of the streets of our community, by self-initiated traffic enforcement. In addition, traffic enforcement aids in traffic safety, decreasing traffic accidents, and identifying criminals involved in residential/vehicle burglaries.”
