Charges listed below are accusations, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
On 7/19/19 at about 9:37 p.m., Whiteside County Deputies responded to a vehicle crash at Lyndon and Hazel Roads, rural Morrison, IL. Investigation revealed a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Joseph R. Mathews, 70, of Morrison, was traveling southbound on Lyndon Road. When he was approaching the intersection of Hazel Road, a 2003 Toyota 4Runner, driven by Paulette M. Selmi, 65, of Sterling, IL, entered the intersection, failing to yield the right of way and causing a collision.
The force of the collision caused the Toyota 4Runner to enter the southwest ditch of Lyndon Road where it overturned, resting on its driver’s side. The driver of the Toyota, Selmi, was extracted from the vehicle and transported to Jovan Bae Riverside Hospital in Rockford, IL, by Medforce Helicopter for her injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado, Mathews, was transported by Ambulance to Morrison Community Hospital for his injuries.
This investigation is ongoing. Paulette Selmi was issued a citation for failure to yield the right of way and was released with a Notice to Appear in court. Deputies were assisted by Morrison Police Department, Morrison Fire Department, Morrison Medical Services, CGH Medical Services, Medforce Helicopter, and Hunter’s Towing.
