LAhistorical-societyPlease join us at the Lyndon Area Historical Society on Sunday, July 13, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. for a concert.  Dmitry Feovanof, award-winning concert pianist, lawyer, and resident of Lyndon, IL, will perform Mozart’s Sonata in D Major.  The museum is located in the former Lyndon Congregational Church, 405 W. 4th Street, Lyndon.

On exhibit will be a display of Lyndon schools.  Lyndon’s venerable history as a renowned and progressive educational hub has been lost to history.  The first school in Lyndon was built in 1840 and was the first above the ordinary grades in Whiteside County.  Known as the Lyndon Academy, this prestigious facility attracted students throughout Whiteside County.

The performance and exhibit are free of charge, but donations are most gladly accepted.

Lyndon Area Historical Society is open from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. each Wednesday or by appointment.  For more information, please contact Kris Bielema at 815-778-4801 or visit our website at www.lyndonareahistoricalsociety.org.

Following the performance, light refreshments will be served.  We look forward to seeing you there!

This watercolor of the first Lyndon School is by May Crowell, artist, journalist, and life-long resident of Lyndon.
