Joyce A. Mathew, 88, of Morrison, IL, died Thursday, July 6, 2023, at Dixon Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Dixon, IL.
Joyce was born June 10, 1935, in Sterling, IL, to Myrtle and Russell Sulouff. She was a 1953 graduate of Sterling High School. On April 8, 1956, she married Lester W. Mathew in Sterling. Together they farmed the family farm in Morrison until 1980. Joyce grew up attending St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sterling, and she then became a member of First Presbyterian Church in Morrison. She served many roles in the church, including Sunday School Treasurer and on the Funeral Luncheon Committee. She volunteered at the Morrison Hospital for many years and at her daughters’ schools throughout their years of attendance. Her love for children brought her much joy, which led her to serving as a child care provider for many family members and friends. Joyce enjoyed attending as many of her grandchildren’s sporting, musical, and school activities as possible.
Survivors include her daughters, Leanne Miller of Sterling, Marsha (Harry) Koth of Sugar Grove, IL, and Jill (Kevin) Wohrley of Mendota, IL; six grandchildren, Andrew Miller, Matt (Rebecca) Koth, Tommy (Kate Perry) Koth, Bethany (Keegan) Bedeker, Melissa (Bryan McDonough) Wohrley, and Katherine Wohrley; two great-grandchildren, Christopher and Jacob Miller; Danny’s former fiancée, Melissa Kuhl; sisters, Nancy Davis and Betty Dettman, both of Sterling; many nieces and nephews.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lester; grandson, Danny Miller; brothers-in-law, Alvin Dettman and Dave Davis; niece, Peggy Dettman.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
There will be a Memorial Service at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 13, 2023, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, with Rev. Dr. Michael Selburg, Pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating.
A Memorial Visitation will be held the same day, Thursday, July 13, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
A private family interment will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Sterling, IL.
A memorial has been established to First Presbyterian Church in Morrison, IL.
