Odell Public Library, 307 S. Madison Street, Morrison, IL, hosted local author Josh Hollister and his canine companion, Gus, on Saturday, October 22, 2016, from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. Hollister shared a reading of his second novel, Luke Long Ears and the Rune of King Arthur. As with his first novel reading, The Adventurous Imagination of Max the Basset Hound, Hollister brought Basset Hounds and accepted donations of dog supplies to benefit the Clinton Humane Society.
The character Luke Long Ears and his adventures began as a bedtime story for Hollister’s two sons, Brendan and Jacob. The tales are a humorous conglomeration of history, mystery, and Basset Hounds. Although Hollister’s books are classified as junior fiction, all ages enjoy them.
Autographed copies of the novel were available for purchase; both novels can be checked out from Odell. They also are available for purchase on Amazon.com.
In this second installation, Max the Basset Hound assumes the role of hero, Luke Long Ears. He is called upon by an old friend to help uncover a mystery surrounding an ancient artifact tied to the legendary King Arthur. Luke, a world renowned archaeologist and professor, is skeptical of the legend’s authenticity, but he is quickly pulled into a mystery that threatens the safety of his friends.
Readers join in the adventure as Luke races against the clock, a ruthless villain, and supernatural dangers to embark on a deadly mission. Is there any truth behind the legend of King Arthur?
Hollister is a long-time resident of Morrison and currently teaches History and Special Education at Clinton[, IA,] High School.
