She was born on October 10, 1940, in Mount Carroll, IL, as the first of nine children to Clyde (Red) and Charlotte (DeSpain) Harmon. he graduated from Milledgeville High School in 1958. Together, they were blessed with three children.

She had worked at Elkay in Lanark, IL, and PNC in Polo, but Joretta had mostly stayed home raising their children, as well as babysitting for many others in their home. She was a great cook. The farm help would especially enjoy the breakfasts and dinners she made for them when they were working there.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law, William Holcomb; brothers-in- law, Vic Scribner, Terry Schreiner, and Richard Wolf; sisters-in-law, Jo Bardell and Stephanie Wolf.
